Carefree, Arizona

Carefree's motto is "Home of Cowboys and Caviar, Where the Old West Meets the New." This is an upscale residential area that began as a master-planned community back in the mid-1950's. 1959 saw the erection of the Carefree sundial, the 3rd largest sundial in the Western Hemisphere with a 90' diameter and a gnomon 35' high and 72' long.

Southwestern Studios (where the New Dick Van Dyke Show was filmed in the early 1970's) used to call Carefree home. The studios later became Carefree Studios and were finally razed to make room for retail space and residential development back in 1999.
