Guadalupe, Arizona

Guadalupe is a small town sandwiched in between Phoenix and Tempe on the eastern side of the Phoenix Metroplex. Guadalupe was founded along about 1900 by Yaqui Indians who came here from their homeland in Sonora, Mexico to escape oppression under the government of Porfirio Diaz. Today, Guadalupe offers many religious festivals as it is the American center of Yaqui culture. Most festivities allow respectful visitors but no cameras are allowed with them. Guadalupe is primarily a residential community as most residents commute out into the greater Phoenix area for work.
