Salt River Canyon Wilderness

The 32,101-acre Salt River Canyon Wilderness is about 20 miles downstream from where US 60 drops 2,000 feet to cross the Salt River and then climbs 2,000 feet on the other side to continue its journey. That particular river crossing is very dramatic, and 20 miles downstream, the Salt River Canyon is even more spectacular. However, access to the area is very difficult and there are no maintained trails. Most folks who come here do so in the fast and furious river-rafting season between March 1 and May 15.
