Guernsey, Wyoming

Guernsey Dam

Charles A. Guernsey moved to this area from New York in 1880 and bought a chunk of land directly on the old Oregon Trail in what was then Laramie County. Guernsey was a rancher who became a state legislator and later a mining promoter. He was also instrumental in getting Guernsey Dam built. This area along the North Platte River has been almost continuously occupied for about 10,000 years, and there are lots of archaeological sites around to prove it.

Nearby is Guernsey State Park, the historic Oregon Trail Ruts site and Register Cliff. About 12 miles south of Guernsey is the Grayrocks Reservoir, touted as the hottest walleye, bass, catfish and muskie fishing spot in Wyoming.
