Socorro Nature Area

Located in the Rio Grande Bosque, the Socorro Nature Area has a 1/2 mile long self-guided nature walk with interpretive signage, an amphitheatre and a pond within its 120-acre environmental education site. The facility offers hiking, camping, picnicking and wildlife watching. There is a parking lot, information kiosk, group shelter, picnic tables and restroom, but no drinking water.

To get to the Socorro Nature Area: Get off the I-25 at Lemitar (exit 156) onto State Route 408. Go east about 1.1 mile across the railroad track to the T intersecton.Turn right and go about 0.2 miles, then turn left (go east) on a county-maintained dirt road. Go about 1/2 mile east across drainage and irrigation ditches to the Nature Area.

The Socorro Nature Area is open year round with no fees but groups need to call the Socorro Field Office to reserve a date. They should also visit the field office and get maps and keys.
