The Wyoming Centennial Scenic Byway is a beautiful, 163-mile route that connects Pinedale with Dubois via Jackson, Moran and Togwotee Pass. The Scenic Byway is composed entirely of paved US Highway, Route 191 between Pinedale and Moran, and Routes 26/287 between Moran and Dubois. A large part of the Wyoming Centennial Scenic Byway is through either Bridger-Teton or Shoshone National Forest, and the National Elk Refuge and Grand Teton National Park, so distractions are very abundant. This is an area of widely differing landscapes and lots of wildlife, an area where you can fly-fish some of the finest fly-fishing streams in America, participate in some of the finest big game hunting in the lower 48 states, climb sheer granite walls, raft whitewater streams galore, catch hot-and-cold-running geysers and be simply awed by some of the grandest and most gorgeous scenery in the world. You could drive the length of this byway in about 4 hours... but what a waste. It'd take me a couple days at the very least... of course I'd be spending more time in the woods than on the road: 5 designated wilderness areas, 2 national parks, the National Elk Refuge, the Slide Lake National Geologic Site... never mind Jackson. |
