The Dry Cimarron Scenic Byway is a scenic back road in northeastern New Mexico that traverses high mesas and wide canyons, along the way showcasing a lot of what makes New Mexico the Land of Enchantment. Along the way, I came across Folsom Falls (just north of the town of Folsom).

This particular spot seems to be under the control of New Mexico Game and Fish. There's an unsigned parking area next to the paved road. From there you can pass through one of those gates that confuse cattle enough to keep them out and walk a couple hundred yards to the edge of the lava flow that creates the falls. I took some photos there and then hiked a bit northwest to the fenceline and was able to find a way down to the area below the falls.

As beautiful and inviting as this place is, swimming is not recommended because of undertows and strange currents among the rocks. But what a gorgeous place to have lunch and enjoy the sound of running water...
