Forest Road 597 runs into Red River at Mallette Canyon Road, which provides access to Exploration Road. There is parking along the road near the mouth of Mallette Canyon. Exploration Road starts about one mile northeast of the park and crosses advanced terrain to end at Midnight Meadows. While the trail usage is usually light, this route sees hikers, mountain bikers and horseback riders throughout the summer and fall and is used by cross country skiers, snowmobilers and snowshoers through the winter and early spring.
