Photography at the Great Sand Dunes: what an incredible joy! As the sun moves across the sky everything in front of you changes with the angle of the light. Wind, shadows, focus, intensity of the light, angle of view, proximity to the sand, they all add up to continuous change in what's in your viewfinder, without you having to move the viewfinder at all. What you see on this page is just a couple hours of walking into the dunes and then taking a slightly different route for the return. And obviously, it was a typical day in this part of Colorado: brilliant blue sky with hardly a breeze, right at the beginning of the fall leaf color change.
