The Dodgeton Trail is part of a network of trails in the eastern foothills of the Sangre de Cristo's west of Cuchara. The 5-mile length of the Dodgeton Trail is rated as moderately difficult and is used most in the summer and fall.
Access: Take State Highway 12 to the Cuchara Water and Sanitation office. The trailhead there is shared among several trails, including Spring Creek and Dodgeton. The parking area has a $4 day use fee. Notes: Several trails interconnect in this area of the Sangre de Cristo's, with the Dodgeton Trail mostly following Dodgeton Creek uphill to where the trail intersects with the Indian Creek Trail. If you go left (south) on the Indian Creek Trail, you'll come to the Baker Creek Trail which can take you several miles back down the hill to where you left your vehicle.
