San Isabel National Forest
Baker Trail #1301

This 3 mile long trail is rated as moderately difficult and sees most of its traffic in the summer and fall.

    Elevations:
  • Trail beginning: 8,500'
  • High Point: 10,000'
  • Trail ending: 10,000'

Access: Off State Highway 12 at the Cuchara Water & Sanitation office. Park at the Spring Creek Trailhead ($4 fee for parking) and then follow the Dodgeton Trail for about 1.25 miles to the junction with the Baker Trail. Or, go to the Aspen Villas at Cuchara Mountain Resort and park at the blue water storage tank (not in the condo parking lots). Follow the signs for about 1/8 mile to the Baker Trail.

Notes: The Baker Trail tends to the north (from Cuchara Mountain Resort) and ties in to the Dodgton - Spring Creek - Indian Creek Trail network. This is a beautiful area in the eastern foothills of the Sangre de Cristos. You'll come across several outcroppings of the famous Great Dikes along the way. There's another more difficult, 1.5 mile section of the Baker Creek Trail that heads west up the Baker Creek drainage from near the ski lifts at Cuchara Mountain Resort.
