Wigwam Trail #609

The Wigwam Trail crosses the middle part of the Lost Creek Wilderness. Its 11.3 miles are rated as difficult and the trail sees most use in the summer and fall.

Elevations:

• Trail beginning: 8,160'
• High Point: 10,170'
• Trail ending: 9,940'

Access: The eastern trailhead is on a short spur off of FR 560 (Stoney Pass Road): go west from Deckers on County Road 126 to Forest Road 211, at the fork go right on FR 560 to the short spur FR 545. The western trailhead is at the Lost Park Trailhead (where there is a fee for parking): north of Jefferson on US 285, go east on County Road 56 (Lost Park Road) for 16 miles to the trailhead.

Notes: From the eastern trailhead, follow the signs along an old logging road until the trail leaves the road and heads northwest along Wigwam Creek. The rise is gradual until you come to the steep, rocky sections just below Wigwam Park. Wigwam Park offers good fishing in the beaver ponds and some excellent campsites (just be at least 100' from the water and the trail). In Wigwam Park, you'll first come to the junction with the Goose Creek Trail (coming from the south) and then the Rolling Creek Trail (coming from the north).

The Wigwam Trail continues its slow rise from Wigwam Park to the pass at the end of the valley, then drops into East Lost Park, a wide open valley encircled by domes and other outcroppings of Pikes Peak granite. Then you'll cross Lost Creek and follow that stream uphill to the intersection with the Brookside - McCurdy Trail at the Lost Park Trailhead.
