Waldo Canyon Loop Trail #640

Waldo Canyon Loop Trail is a moderately difficult, 7 mile nature trail that sees traffic year-round. This is also probably the busiest trail in all of Pike National Forest.

Elevations:

• Trail beginning: 7,000'
• High Point: 7,300'
• Trail ending: 7,000'

Access: On US 24, go 2 miles west of the Manitou Springs Bypass. There is a parking area on the north side of the highway. The trailhead is marked by a post-and-rail fence and a wooden sign.

Notes: This is a foot trail only. The loop overlooks Waldo Canyon. About 2 miles in the trail opens up near a stream. Supposedly, the former Waldo Hog Ranch was located here in the meadow. At the far end of the meadow is the junction with a 3-mile loop that often gives sightings of mule deer and bighorn sheep. Camping is allowed but be 300' (or more) from the trail and the stream. Permits for campfires are not required but be aware of your responsibility should you choose to light one. Pack it in, pack it out. And unless you enjoy backcountry water, you'll want to bring your own.
