The Mount Bierstadt Trail is about 3 miles long (one way) and is heavily used in the summertime. Rating: More Difficult.
Trailhead Location: At the top of Guanella Pass Road (County Road 381), there is a parking area where three trails start. Each one is marked and the Mount Bierstadt Trail heads due east from the parking area. This trail starts above treeline and takes you through what is probably the largest willow bog in Colorado. A wooden boardwalk has been built so hikers can keep their feet dry from the wet bog and protect the alpine willows from human damage. After crossing the bog, the trail then begins to climb to the summit of Mount Bierstadt. Wonderful views of surrounding peaks can be seen, as well as the Continental Divide in the distance. |
