This trail is little used and is rated as Most Difficult.
Trailhead Location: The access to this trail is via the McIntrye Trail #966. Take Highway 14 west of Fort Collins for 60 miles and then turn north onto Laramie River Road. Travel 16 miles along Laramie River Road, turn left onto the Glendevey Road and travel another three miles. Follow the McIntrye Trail nine miles to Ute Pass. The Medicine Bow intersects the McIntyre Trail near Ute Pass, then turns south. The Medicine Bow Trail is within the Rawah Wilderness. The trail follows the Medicine Bow Divide and runs south to the Link Trail. The views are spectacular. The trail is hard to follow in places, particularly as it decends toward the Link Trail. Users also have the option of going north from Ute Pass but this part of the trail is also hard to follow in many places. Campsites must be at least 200 feet away from any water sources and no campfires are allowed above treeline. |
