Trailhead Location: From Lyons, turn left on Colorado Highway 7 north (South St. Vrain Canyon) about 15 miles. Just east (within view) of the turnoff for Riverside (which lies on the south side of the highway) watch for Conifer Hill Road on the north side marked by a row of rural mailboxes. Follow Conifer Hill Road (this is National Forest System Road 185, but may or may not be signed as such) north up the hill. Turn right at each road intersection, avoiding private property and driveways. It is approximately 1.5 miles from Highway 7 to the Dry St. Vrain Trailhead. A four-wheel drive vehicle is highly recommended for access to this trailhead.

Dry St. Vrain Trail #920 leads gradually downhill for about 1.5 miles, as it roughly follows an intermittent tributary of the North St. Vrain Creek. The last stretch of trail to North St. Vrain Creek drops down quite steeply to the creek bed. North St. Vrain Creek runs very heavily in the spring and early summer runoff season and during periods of heavy rain. It may be difficult to impossible to cross. One mile to the west along North St. Vrain Creek, the Coulson Gulch Trail meets the north side of the creek; and 1.5 miles to the east is Button Rock Reservoir; any trails you find that run parallel to North St. Vrain Creek are unmaintained social trails.
