The Bard Creek Trail is about 10 miles each way and is rated as Most Difficult.
Trailhead Location: Out of the town of Empire, follow County Road 252 (South Empire Pass Road) for about two miles. The road becomes very rough and you may need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to travel the remaining three miles of National Forest System Road (NFSR) 777. The Bard Creek Trail starts at the end of the road. The trail follows the mountain ridge north of Georgetown and views of Georgetown and the Continental Divide are numerous. Traveling through fields of wildflowers, groves of aspen trees and passing several abandoned mines, Bard Creek Trail offers lots of photo opportunities. The last mile joins with the Watrous Gulch Trail and takes you to Interstate 70. |
