High in the Pintler Mountains, Discovery Ski Area is known for light snow, high country, steep slopes, great cruisers, and a friendly atmosphere. The 2 north-facing bowls offer some pretty steep terrain, while the frontside offers some excellent beginner and intermediate runs. Powder bowls, mogul runs, tree skiing, great boarding air, and well-groomed trails... there's something for everyone at Discovery. There's even lessons, rentals and world-class cross country skiing available. This is not an urbanized resort: this is Montana Big Country and there's no condos in sight. There is a lodge, though, and the restaurant inside offers an excellent buffet. There's also a lounge in a cozy corner, upstairs in the lodge. Discovery Ski Area is at Georgetown Lake, 23 miles west of Anaconda on the Pintler Scenic Highway, a wide, 2-lane, all weather Montana Highway convenient to the I-90. Missoula is 90 miles to the west. 30 miles to the east is Fairmont Hot Springs with 2 Olympic-size pools and 2 soaking pools (open 24 hours to registered guests). Fairmont also sports Montana's only year-round, 350-foot water slide. Fairmont is a great place to soak, relax, get a therapeutic massage... the lodging is affordable and Ski and Slide Packages are available. |
