Looking across Lake Pend Oreille from Hope
The view across Lake Pend Oreille from Hope

Hope was founded in 1881 as a railroad town on the northeastern shore of Lake Pend Oreille. State Route 200 through town is also known as the Pend Oreille Scenic Byway. Most folks who come to Hope come to enjoy the peace and quiet while exploring Lake Pend Oreille and the vast forests and mountains in the area. Those folks who work for a living seem to commute daily to jobs in Sandpoint. Real estate in the area looks to be expensive and that serves to push the cost of living up.
