Red Mountain

Red Mountain is a different area. In the midst of some spectacular mountain terrain there's these large yellow and red humps. I'd love to see the looks on the faces of the first few prospectors who came across this.

There's actually Red Mountain #1, #2 and #3. Each of them seem to be made of the same minerals and those minerals are apparently worth something: there's hundreds of old mine shafts into these hills from all sides. The Idarado Mine is here and it was one of the biggest money-makers in all of Colorado. If you click on some of the blow-up photos below you can see how really close some of the mines were together. For whatever reason, when the San Juans were formed, this particular area got a heavy dose of gold and silver.
