This photo is looking to the northeast, up the canyon of Wilson Creek. To me, this is one of those scenes that exemplifies "Colorado," and that picture we have in our heads as to what "Colorado" means. This is Mitre Peak (8,569'). The peak itself is on BLM land, as are most of the hills in the background, but the rest of this property is privately owned. Lucky owner, for me this is just gorgeous. And the remoteness adds to its beauty. Once there's snow on the ground the only way to get in here is snowmobile, helicopter or cross-country skis. But what a summer location... and that irritating cell phone: even if the wind blows in the "right" direction, it won't work in here. You could actually have peace, quiet, solitude... |
