Another look back toward the canyon that I came up. On the left side of the photo you can see the road as it makes its way along the face of the hill and then turns the corner. Lots of spruce and fir down below. I can't imagine what it must have been like for a prospector to come through this area with a horse or a mule or a donkey. And because of the way in which all this rock sits and disguises itself, I'll bet they did lots of backtracking when they suddenly discovered the drop that lay waiting just the other side of each tiny bit of solid footing. The streambed in the bottom of the canyon isn't much different than what you see here. This is an area with lots of little waterfalls when it rains. |
