Access: Take US 50 west from Poncha Springs about 12 miles to Garfield. Just west of Garfield go right (north) on Middle Fork Road (Forest Road 230). This is 4WD only: if you don't have 4WD AND high clearance, save your vehicle: park and walk the 1 mile in to the trailhead to Boss Lake. Notes: At the trailhead to Boss Lake, go left and hike about 1 mile to Boss Lake. Follow the trail along the east side of Boss Lake looking for the small sign that says "Hunt Lake." From that sign it's about 1 mile further in to Hunt Lake, right at the foot of the rise to the Continental Divide. This is gorgeous high country just below timberline with great views... and if the lakes are stocked, the fish are most likely native greenback cutthroats. USGS Maps: Garfield |
