The Rolling Creek Trail accesses the northeast side of the Lost Creek Wilderness. Its 6.4 miles are rated as easy with a few more difficult stretches. Most hikers are out here in the summer and fall.
Access: Take County Road 68 east from Bailey to the fork at County Road 543. Bear right and go to the Colorado Trail/Rolling Creek Trailhead. Notes: From the trailhead, the Colorado Trail bears west (right) while the Rolling Creek Trail bears east (left). The first 1/3 of the trail is very easy to walk. Then you cross Rolling Creek and the Wilderness Boundary. From that point on, the trail gets steep. Just past Rolling Creek you'll enter a narrow canyon and slowly climb up. As you reach the rim, the views to the north open up and are pretty spectacular. The high point of the trail is a saddle on the ridge separating the Rolling Creek and Wigwam drainages. From that saddle, the trail continues south into Wigwam Park and ends at the junction with the Wigwam Trail. USGS Maps: Windy Peak, McCurdy Mountain |
