The Lovell Gulch Trail is 5.5 miles of easy to moderate hiking on a trail for hikers and horseback riders only. This trail sees traffic all year round.
Access: The trailhead is on County Road 22 (Rampart Range Road) next to the Woodland Park City Road Maintenance Building. Notes: Lovell Gulch is a very popular loop trail right out of Woodland Park. Heading north out of Woodland Park, the first mile is nearly level and right along the edge of the timber. Then it crosses a stream and forks. Take the right and spend the next 1.5 miles going upstream through a narrow meadow. Then the trail leaves the stream and heads up onto a ridge before looping back along the ridge. The views of Ute Pass and Pikes Peak are excellent. The steepest section of the trail is coming down off that ridge. That will bring you back to that first fork in the trail. Go right and head back to the trailhead. USGS Maps: Woodland Park, Mt. Deception |
