This very difficult trail is about 1.25 miles long (one way). It sees light use, mostly in spring, summer and fall. Elevation: 7,200' to 6,500' Just south of Chevelon Canyon Lake, this trail descends into Chevelon Canyon with great views of the canyon and the Ponderosa forest. The trail ends at Chevelon Creek, is quite steep and sports lots of loose rock and fallen trees. You'll want to be wearing good hiking shoes and carrying lots of water. Access: Turn onto Forest Road 300 about 26 miles west of Heber-Overgaard on State Road 260. Follow FR 300 to FR 169, turn right, go to FR 119, turn right and go to the end of the road. Or, from the north, follow Forest Road 34 to Forest Road 504. Take Forest Road 504 to Forest Road 169 and turn right. Follow FR 169 to FR 119, turn to the east and go to the end of the road.
