This moderate rated trail offers up to a 28-mile round trip. It sees moderate use from April through November, depending on snowpack. South Fork Trail offers great scenery and excellent fishing. 3.5 miles of the lower trail follow the South Fork of the Little Colorado, a fast running, runoff and spring-fed stream. Once you are up the hill, the views just open out. This is aspen and conifer country with a fair bit of water around. That means ducks and Canada geese year round with bald eagles in the winter. This is also elk, deer, beaver and turkey country. Elevation: 7,500' to 9,000' Access: The main trailhead is in the South Fork campground on the west side of the creek. The other trailhead is on the north side of Mexican Hay Lake (and can be very muddy during spring runoff and summer rains). Parking is limited at both trailheads.
