1/4 mile of this 3/8 mile trail is paved and universally accessible. This easy trail sees heavy use in warm weather, with most traffic from May through October. Elevation: 6,400' This is a unique area in that the ponds were begun in 1977 as a joint venture between the City of Show Low, the National Forest Service and the Arizona Game and Fish Department. The water source is treated effluent from Show Low's sewer system and the wetlands created are designed, planned and being managed as a waterfowl enhancement area. There are even two viewing blinds offering great views out over the ponds. Access: Take State Road 77 north from Show Low for about 3.3 miles to the Pintail Lake turnoff. Turn right and go to the end of the road. There you can park and follow well established trails to either the open observation deck or to the covered blind. |
