This difficult, 5.2 mile trail ends at the source of Chitty Creek: a large, year-round spring bubbling ice water into the canyon. The trail sees light use from April through December. The first part of the trail is a jeep road in Salthouse Creek leading off from the Salthouse Trail. After a bit more than 1/2 mile, the jeep road ends but the trail continues on along Chitty Creek. At 2.9 miles in, you'll come to Chitty Falls. The fishing is good above the falls. Just above the falls is the junction with the westbound Highline Trail while the eastbound Highline Trail splits off 0.4 miles further up. It's another 1.8 miles to the end of the trail at the big spring. Elevation: 6,000' to 7,600' Access: This trail can only be accessed from other trails, and most folks use the westbound Highline Trail to get here. USGS Maps: Hannagan 302SW |
