This easy trail is about 1 mile long, round trip. While season lasts from April into November, the trail sees its heaviest usage between Memorial Day and Labor Day. The trail follows the stream along the bottom of a very green canyon. The route is almost level and has several interpretive stations along the way. Hikers and bikes are welcome but horses and motorized vehicles are not. A Forest Service Naturalist conducts regularly scheduled interpretive walks and lectures along Butler Canyon Trail in the summer. Schedules are posted at the Springerville Ranger Station and at Hoyer Campground. Jacob Butler and his 19 children settled here in the late 1880's. Walking down the trail today, you can see why. Elevation: 8,000' Access: Butler Canyon is located off the East Fork Road, just east of Greer. USGS Maps: 258 SW, Greer, AZ |
