Cutthroat Campground

Access: Cutthroat Campground is in the Big Lake Recreation Complex, about 25 miles south of Springerville, Arizona, via State Road 273.

Elevation: 9,040'

Camping season generally runs from mid-May through September.

Most campsites are walk-in with no parking at the site. Sites are scattered among the Ponderosas, spruce and aspen. The campground is not designed to accommodate motor homes or trailers. Expect cool to cold nights and heavy rains in July and August.

Facilities:

  • 18 units, tent only, each site has fire rings, grills and picnic tables
  • On site campground hosts
  • Scheduled programs at the Visitor's Center
  • There's a full service store at the lake shore
  • Vault toilets, drinking water, showers, dump station
  • Hiking/mountain bike trail and an interpretive nature trail
  • Boat launch ramp

Other notes:

  • No electric hookups
  • Pets must be leashed or otherwise restrained
  • Camping is free after mid-October
