Carter, Montana |
Carter began life as a settlement named Sidney but the Great Northern Railway changed the name in 1905 to honor Montana's US Senator Thomas Carter. The town is a few miles southwest of Fort Benton near a spot where a ferry crossed the Missouri River regularly for many years. There is still a ferry operating on the river, delivering folks to the great fishing available at a Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks site on the east side of the water. The Carter area is famous for the volume of their wheat and barley production. Carter is kinda famous for the Carter, Montana Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame honors celebrities who have visited Carter and actually got out of the vehicle to step on the ground. As of 2010, there were six confirmed inductees with a seventh one planned. Those six are: Keanu Reeves, Charlie Sheen, Arsenio Hall, Eddie Vedder, Harry Truman and Steven Smith. The potential seventh is professional wrestler CM Punk. |
